Team Losi Racing’s next generation buggy is here and both versions are packed with go-fast goodies and a laundry list of tuning options, right in the box. Available in both AC and DC versions (astroturf/carpet and dirt/clay) this car can be adapted to any track surface without the need to shell out extra cash for options. Each kit makes use of an aluminum chassis plate for a low center of gravity and a stiff backbone and the 7075 T6 slab is hard anodized for long lasting good looks. Both the AC and DC versions feature a longer chassis for added stability when using high horsepower motors on today’s high grip surfaces. A steel electronics plate that places weight as low as possible and is easily removable; finding its home between the servo and battery tray for a balanced layout.

TLR has made the switch to a 3-gear, laydown transmission arrangement for the lowest CG and least amount of friction within the drivetrain. This places the motor further rearward, adding forward traction while also calming the steering feel that some drivers note with previous generations and their motor forward layout. Differential adjustments are a snap with the 22X and its “easy access differential” meaning a diff fluid change (on the AC version at least) is a simple affair and not the half-day teardown that some other chassis necessitate. The rear wheels are driven by constant velocity universals. A new SHDS (super heavy duty slipper) arrangement provides more consistent traction and handles the torque of mod motors better than previous designs.

Much like previous generations the 22X makes most of its changes in the suspension department. Up front, the X features adjustable caster angles from -5 to +5 degrees (in 2.5 degree increments) as well as adjustable kickup from 20 degrees to 25 degrees, also in 2.5 degree increments. Within the all-new front end are a new spindle with a narrow king pin and larger scrub radius for increased steering response. New to the TLR buggy are standard offset wheels (not included); opening up wheel options. New 13mm threaded body, oil-filled dampers and new 13mm springs offer the utmost in traction and handling while the included sway bars resist chassis roll and keep the tires planted. Out back, drivers will find the Variable Height Axle carriers that offer another tuning option that helps this car stick to any surface. Rigid 4mm carbon shock towers bookend the chassis and have plastic covers to protect the carbon weave from rollovers. Smoothing out the suspension travel are all new ball studs and rod ends with 5.8mm balls. Finally, suspension parts are made from multiple hardness glass filled composites for the optimum mix of flex and rigidity.

While this kit does not include parts such as a motor, speed control, receiver, transmitter, charger, wheels and tires, a pinion, a 30x30mm fan (although the fan mount is included), a pinion gear or a battery and charger it does include a genuine Pro-Line Sector body that balances traction between the front and rear axles as well a 7″ Air Force wing, also by Pro-Line. The inclusion of this body and wing shows TLR’s commitment to providing only the best parts in the box; this body is the latest in aerodynamic technology for 1/10 buggies and besides looking very attractive also lowers lap times on a myriad of surfaces.
