TWIRC: This Week In RC, August 25-31

As we say goodbye to the month of August 2025 we do so with a handful of new car and truck releases from Team Associated, Axial and Arrma. We’re currently in that awkward time between early summer when everyone is gearing up for the outdoor season and the “Golden Quarter” of the holiday season upon when we usually see the most vehicle release activity. I’m sure that with the school year in full swing now and the holidays fast approaching we will be seeing more and more releases as the cooler weather sets in. Join us to see what’s new this week!

TEAM ASSOCIATED

Team Associated is back at it again with another Special Edition of one of their re-releases; this time the RC10GT Richard Saxton Edition. Saxton is the man mostly associated (pun very much intended) with the RC10GT, winning numerous ROAR titles with the platform. The 10GT also won every ROAR 1/10 Nitro stadium truck championship between its debut in 1994 and its final competition season in 2004. To celebrate the impact that Saxton had on RC racing as well as to give a breath of fresh air to the 1/10 nitro stadium truck class Team Associated is releasing a new RC10GT kit, this time dubbed the “Richard Saxton Edition.” Changes to this kit from the original RC10GT include a black anodized and laser etched aluminum tub chassis, Stealth ATC transmission optimized for “gas” truck use, rear disc brake (replacing the original cork pad that rubbed the clutch bell), inline steering blocks and front axles attached to a 30 degree kickup front end, T2 front and rear arms, vintage style wide wedge front and spike rear tires, black plastics and a set of Richard “The King” Saxton decals for the original style RC10GT clear body. Radio gear, an engine, electronics, starting equipment and fuel are not included with this kit. If you are a fan of “gas” trucks and haven’t picked up a 10GT yet this is a great option, these trucks are a simple to build and work on, are easy to tune and maintain and handle extremely well on a variety of surfaces.

ARRMA

New this week from the basher-heads at Arrma are the newly updated 1/7 Limitless 120 8s AVC RTR (man, that is a mouthful), the latest in Arrma’s extensive line of speed-minded bashers. This car is a parts bin special; mixing components from a few different generations as well as the EXB variants of other Arrma’s to create the world’s fasts RTR RC car, capable of 120mph. Powered by a Spektrum 4685 1450kv motor and 160a speed control, meaning either 6s or 8s power can be used. An older generation motor mount is used to clear the larger 8s motor, allowing it to fit with no other chassis changes. Outside the Limitless 120 uses a new style polycarbonate body with an aggressive front splitter/front wing combo as well as a large rear wing with tall Gurney flap for the most downforce possible to make the car stable at speed. To achieve the highest speed an included optional pinion gear must be installed but the front and rear aero must be trimmed to reduce drag. Doing this means no going back to “basher mode” with its higher downforce and cornering ability without purchasing new wings. A flat bottom smooths air flowing under the car, generating downforce with no drag penalty yet Arrma chose to retain the open wheel/closed cockpit body style of the original Limitless instead of a more aerodynamically efficient wedge style shell. While RTR the Limitless 120 does require either (2) 3s or (2) 4s batteries and their associated charger for completion.

AXIAL

While looking really nice, the “new” Gladiator SCX24 Summit Racing Edition isn’t really new. The body gets a new special paint scheme, Pro-Line Impulse Beadlocks, Pro-Line oil filled shocks and Pro-Line Mickey Thompson Baja Pro-X tires, while the familiar SCX24 chassis, gearbox and axles remain the same. Don’t get me wrong though, I really like the Summit JT body and any chance to get new people in the hobby is a good thing.
