Redcat’s line of 1/10 trucks gets a performance boost in the form of the new 4s powered Valkyrie MT and its truggy sibling the Valkyrie TR. Each truck falls into the typical 1/10 size category but is stuffed with 1/8 power and performance.
Beginning with the MT, owners will find a polycarbonate one-piece body, reminiscent of the 1/5 Vigilante and its classic Chevy styled body, which is also fitted with molded under body shell supports, roof and bed skids as well as a classic two-tone paint scheme. The TR truggy receives a sleek cab-forward truck shell with similar roof skids to its MT counterpart and a smaller than expected rear wing. Each body option is only available in one color scheme. Each model wears large diameter 17mm hex wheels with appropriately sized tires; larger knob style off-road meats for the MT and slightly smaller diameter all-terrain meats adorn the TR.
Each truck utilizes a high-impact composite plastic chassis that is braced by a thick, solid rod of aluminum from front to rear in lieu of smaller upper deck plates to tie the center diff to the front and rear bulkheads. Dirt guards protect the chassis’ insides from debris and combined with the integrated shock towers provide additional strength and a reduction in front-to-rear chassis flex. An ultra-beefy motor mount encapsulates the 3670 size, 1950kv brushless motor, providing a home for the included motor cooling fan as well as the motor’s idler gear that meshes with the center differential. Splined front and rear driveshafts transfer power to the sealed, oil-filled differentials that flank the Valkyrie MT and TR, reducing backlash while ensuring reliable power delivery with every stab of the throttle. Each wheel receives a splined slider half-shaft that keys into the 17mm wheel hex; no more axle pins!
Suspension wise, the TR and MT get threaded body, big bore dampers to cushion the ride attached to extra-thick closed bottom suspension arms. Oversized bearings and solid camber links add a degree of durability while a sliding steering rack swings the wheels smoothly. A Hexfly Torque Spec steering servo provides the yank and is water resistant so puddles are not an issue. Powering the whole system is a genuine Hobbywing Max10 brushless ESC that takes its orders from a Redcat RTX-4C 4-channel 2.4gHz radio system.
