Team Associated’s classic parking lot racer the RC10DS gets its own “Classic” release in response to customer demand. Originally released in 1996 the RC10DS was Associated’s answer to the parking lot racing boom of the time but rather than a clean sheet designed 4wd touring car TA forged their own path with a car based on the architecture of their RC10 off-road buggy.
Suspension wise this 2wd pavement pounder features a molded composite rear shock tower that lowers the chassis compared to its buggy ancestor, anti-roll bars front and rear, ultra stiff molded composite suspension arms for precise handling, adjustable rear toe-in, aluminum anodized oil-filled shocks with adjustable preload collars, adjustable bellcrank steering, fixed front axles with bearings in the wheels as well as fiberglass hinge pin braces that help to keep the old-school e-clip hinge pins in the proper orientation.
A black anodized aluminum tub chassis forms the foundation of the DS, a piece derived directly from the Gold Pan RC10. Similarly the Stealth Transmission found at the rear of the car is plucked directly from the RC10. Inside said transmission lies an adjustable ball differential that is fed power by an A.T.C. slipper clutch. Dog bones transfer power to the wheels through bronze bushings and drive the wheels via pin drive rear wheels. The chrome wheels feature mesh inserts for style while the foam supported radial tires deal with the imperfections of parking lot surfaces. Unlike the original release these tires are Team Associated’s design, as the 1996 version wore Pro-Line Speed Hawgs out of the box. A SN95 Mustang Cobra IMSA style body is included, as are adjustable body mounts. No electronics or pinion gear are included in the kit.
