New Product Release: Traxxas Bigfoot 4×4 BL-2s

Since the first Monster Jam 2wd models were released by Traxxas drivers speculated why the tires were made like short course tires with one bead larger than the other. The common consensus was that Traxxas planned to also introduce a 4×4 version using the suspension from the Stampede 4×4, thus necessitating the larger inner bead. That was 2011 and nothing came of it… until now. Traxxas has released a fully licensed version of Bigfoot #8 and this time it is on a 4wd platform.

Underpinning the big blue oval is Traxxas newest generation Stampede 4×4 chassis; a longer unit that stretches the wheelbase of the truck out to 11.62″. Each end of the truck removes with just a few screws making maintenance a breeze. Traxxas’ Extreme Heavy Duty Suspension kit is included out of the box, including heavy duty suspension arms, caster blocks, steering blocks, rear hubs, fixed HD camber links, oversized bearings and MAXX duty driveshafts. Oil filled Ultra Shocks smooth out the ride while dual bellcranks with an adjustable servo saver keep the truck pointed in the right direction.

The star of the show is clearly the replica Bigfoot 8 body with its clipless body mounts but the new white monster style wheels are not to be overlooked. Wrapped around said wheels are the aforementioned Terra Groove tires with their larger inner bead needed to clear the HD hubs. Steel 12mm drive hexes ensure that all of the power makes it to the wheels from the MAXX duty driveshafts and their 6mm stub shafts. Sealed gear differentials find their home both front and rear while an upgraded slipper clutch transfers power efficiently thanks to its larger alloy pressure plates and high-temperature aluminum pads. Larger 32 pitch gearing reduces the likelihood of a stripped gear and transfers all of the brushless motor’s torque efficiently.

Powering the Bigfoot is Traxxas’ new BL-2s brushless power system. While limited to 2s power, this system is a definite upgrade in power and efficiency over the XL-5 and Titan 12t it replaces. A TRX iD plug eliminates the need to change settings in the ESC when changing battery types; just plug in a pack and go. Traxxas’ TQ 2.4gHz 2-channel radio is included and in bound to a 3-channel receiver leaving an open port for future lighting or fan upgrades. The high torque 2075 servo is ball-bearing supported and sealed against the elements and should swing the tires with authority for many seasons to come.
