The MAXX family is growing, and to make this metaphor even more appropriate, it’s a baby MAXX! The new Mini MAXX from Traxxas is a 1/10 brushless powered 4wd monster truck stuffed into a 1/16 size package.
The chassis takes its core design from the X-MAXX and MAXX with its unified design, integrated shock towers and unique motor mount setup. The composite chassis strikes a balance between flex and strength that has proved to be extremely durable, even against the mass of the larger X-MAXX. Protective nerf bars take on double duty, not only protecting the truck from side impacts but also providing a home for the sides of the body to rest, keeping the shell secure during even the roughest bash sessions. Traxxas has also designed a new set of clipless body mounts that take the form of molded body reinforcements, spreading impact loads across a larger area, that keeps the body firmly in place while also adding to the scale aesthetic. High impact front and rear bumpers protect the chassis; the rear even provides a home for the optional wheelie bar set (sold separately). Like most of Traxxas’ 4wd vehicles the MM is built with a modular design for easy repair and modification.
Since day one the MAXX family has been known for its plush suspension; the original T-Maxx and E-Maxx featured 8 ultra shocks that offered immense suspension travel that was unrivaled at the time. The new generation X-MAXX and 1/10 MAXX eschewed the dual shock at each corner setup in favor of 4 larger bore aluminum GTR dampers that were stronger, more tunable and visually stunning and this little guy follows that trend. Each corner gets a full 1/10 scale Ultra Shock for plush, jump-softening suspension. Wide suspension arms give a track width that is wider than the truck’s wheelbase for stable handling no matter the terrain (253mm track width and a 220mm wheelbase). A dual bellcrank steering system with servo saver connects the 2056 high torque servo to the wheels and features double shear connection points for strength. New 2.4″ wheels and 4″ tall Sledgehammer tires provide the grip as well as the good looks. These tires feature multiple biting edges that overlap across the tread yet are spaced far enough apart to self-clean in muddy conditions.
For power the Mini MAXX utilizes the new Bl-2s brushless power system in all of its 540 sized glory. A fixed gear position motor mount ensure the perfect gear mesh every time between the 32p pinion and spur. Power is transferred through a direct drive spur gear mount for instant torque transfer to the 1/10 sized sealed gear differentials. An optional center differential can be added for greater tuning ability (sold separately). Driveshafts that are 50% larger than typical 1/16 units transfer power to the wheels for solid launches and worry-free bashing. A 3-channel receiver finds its home in a sealed radio box for play anywhere security and is bound to TQ 2-channel 2.4gHz transmitter. Utilizing these larger 1/10 size components reduces stress on the individual pieces making the unit stronger as a whole. Rounding out the RTR package are a 2s 3500mAh 25c LiPO battery pack (with TRX iD connector) as well as a 2a USB Type C charger for out-of-the-box-and-into-the-field convenience.
Traxxas is doing its part to support local hobby shops across the country by making the Mini Maxx available in-person first before online retails receive their stock. The first shipments will become available for sale on Friday, November 29, just in time for the holiday shopping season.
