Traxxas’ entry level Slash, the one that started it all, has received an update with new graphics, clipless body mounts and most importantly, a new 2s specific brushless power system. Replacing the brushed XL-5/Titan 12t combo that previous iterations were equipped with, the new system offers increased power, longer run times and dramatically reduced maintenance, meaning more time is spent on the track versus in the pits.
Building off of the familiar HCG (high center of gravity) chassis, the Slash BL-2 will look very familiar to anyone who owns a current generation Slash. The grey plastic tub chassis is unchanged, as are the Stampede-esque chassis braces found underneath; this time housing a dual bellcrank steering system in favor or the Stampede’s direct-to-servo steering arrangement. Progressive shock springs are found at all four corners and allow for a realistic amount of body roll before firming up to absorb larger impacts. Oil filled Ultra Shocks dampen the ride and feature X-Ring seals for added silky-smoothness. Fixed camber links shrug off even the harshest of impacts while adjustable steering links allow for changes in front toe.
Officially licensed BFGoodrich tires are molded in a medium compound that strikes a balance between confidence inspiring grip on dirt and grin inducing slide-ability on pavement and are mounted to split 5-spoke wheels with faux beadlock rings molded in an accenting color to the body. Speaking of bodies, the BL-2 is available in one of four high-visibility colors: red, orange, green and blue. Securing the body is Traxxas’ patented Clipless body mount system; gone are the days of losing body clips only to find them with the tire of your 1:1 car instead being replaced by a robust latch assembly that holds the body securely while also allowing quick removal when the batteries go flat.
