Ford fans now have their own option in Traxxas’ High Trail lineup with the release of the new 1979 F-150 High Trail edition. Taller and longer than a standard TRX-4 this truck oozes style while also offering more log-clearing, mud-slinging capability.
The pre-installed long-arm lift kit not only gives extra height to clear the larger 2.2″ wheels and tires but also stretches the wheelbase of the TRX-4 by 24mm for added stability and scale proportions. The 1″ lift kit also features 110mm GTS dampers, extended steering links and a revised servo mount. The 2.2″ Slot Mag wheels are era correct for the body and the taller Canyon A/T tires help pull the TRX-4 over and through the roughest terrain. Like other TRX-4’s the High Trail includes portal axles that help eliminate torque twist by placing the gear reduction at the wheels rather than the differentials. Speaking of differentials, the T-Lock diffs offer the best of both worlds for the High Trail: unlocked turning agility and go-anywhere, over-anything locked power transfer; all at the flip of a switch. A high/low 2-speed transmission is controlled by a third channel switch and offers both massive torque and wheel-speed depending on what conditions require.
The High Trail edition also includes many molded scale details to make the old-school Ford body pop including an era-correct double tube roll bar with lights, chrome side mirrors as well as windshield wipers. Chrome differential covers provide an old-school custom touch while also stiffening this crucial area. The body is held to the chassis with Traxxas’ patented clipless system; eliminating the less-than-scale body clips found on other vehicles in this class. Finally molded inner fenders and floor pans further drive home the realness of the body, preventing users from looking directly through the shell while also reducing mud and dirt intrusion into the chassis.
Electronics wise the High Trail utilized the 21t 550 Titan motor for power, an HV XL-5 3s capable ESC, the 4-channel TQi radio system, a high-torque metal gear waterproof 75X servo and a trio of micro servos for diff-lock and shifting duties.
A limited release Launch Edition will be available at select USA Traxxas Exclusive dealers until June 1, 2023.
