TWIRC: This Week In RC, December 7-13

Winter has officially arrived here in Appalachia and with it comes the building and tinkering season. Gone are the crisp fall days of hikes with our crawlers and the muggy afternoons at the tracks; instead replaced with the bright lights of a work lamp and the smell of a fresh cup of coffe accompanying your latest project build session. Luckily the RC industry is still kicking out lust worthy products to keep our hands and minds busy until the weather is more suitable for outdoor habitation and this week saw new products from Traxxas, ProTek RC and Injora. Let’s dive in and see what is going to have our credit cards screaming for mercy in the near future!

TRAXXAS

New this week from Traxxas is the Nissan 240SX version of the 4-Tec 2.0 Drift car; a specially adapted version of the AWD 4-Tec 2.0 chassis that is now RWD and set up with a new high-angle steering kit for easier slides (Traxxas claims a total of 75 degrees of steering angle using this kit), TQi radio system with included wireless module, clipless body mounts to preserve the lines of the officially licensed S14 body, both hard and soft compound tires included in the box and the receiver is equipped with Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) and a fail safe. Unlike most other models in Traxxas’ lineup that have left the Titan brushed motor and XL-5 speed control combo behind in favor of the new BL-2S brushless setup the 4-Tec Drift still makes use of a brushed, 550 size, 21T sealed can motor and 2S only XL-5 speed control. Finally, molded detail pieces are included to bring the body to life while also hiding the clipless body mount hardware.

PROTEK RC

Looking for a new, high-torque brushless servo for your rig but want an economical option that is not short on features? Look no further than the ProTek PTK-630; a servo with up to 630oz-in of torque and a transit speed of .08/60degrees at 8.4v. Inside its aluminum case lies a host of metal gears making this servo extremely strong and reliable. Thanks to its standard size the PTK-630 is a drop in for most 1/10 and 1/8 vehicles and features a 25t output gear for a wide selection of servo horn options and an aluminum clamping unit is included in the package.

INJORA

With the micro and mini crawler segment of the hobby heating up as the weather cools down Injora is back at it again with a new release for the 1/24 crowd, this time the IR-40 Half Truck Hard Body with Bed Cage. Made of durable ABS this body is packed with details that put most Lexan shells to shame, with the added benefit of being able to repaint the truck any time you desire for a fresh look. This body is mil-spec cool and includes molded details such as the grille, mirrors, rock sliders, clear windows, the bed cage and a clipsless front body mount that allows it to fit directly onto your stock SCX24 (it must be either the C10, Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, Base Camp or 4-Runner). Hook and loop fasteners are included for the rear making installation a snap.
