TWIRC: This Week In RC, July 14-20

Welcome back intrepid readers to another week of RC goodness; hopefully the following can be a slight relief to the heat we’re all experiencing at the moment. The past week has seen temperatures here in southern West Virginia in the upper 90’s with humidity doing its best to keep pace. I spent an afternoon recently working on the work space of Site B and was dripping sweat after less than 10 minutes and was a full 24 hours getting myself re-hydrated. More on the progress at Site B later though as we first have news from Team Associated, Losi and surprisingly, MIP. Let’s dive in and see what’s new!

TEAM ASSOCIATED

New this week from Team Associated are a line of Factory Team HT1 carbon fiber steering link arms for the RC10B7.1, as well as a pair of new 1/8 truggies in the form of the new RC8T4.2 and T4.2e kits.

Up first are the new FT HT1 steering link arms for those wanting more tuning options for their B7.1. Drivers looking for the comfort and ease of piloting the HT1 steering arm from kits of yore now have the option for the B7.1; these carbon beauties move the ball stud one step rearward and can also increase steering throw at the same time thanks to the added clearance between the wheel and caster block/knuckle assembly. Each package includes one pair of steering arms and are sold under the item number 92659.

For 1:8 racers who prefer the big tire rush of the Truggy class Team Associated has your next chassis, whether you live for the smell of nitro exhaust or prefer your truck to burn milliamps instead of fuel. The RC8T4.2 and RC8T4.2e Team Kits are an evolutionary step forward for the class, each featuring a host of new features and upgrades over the outgoing models that can lower your lap times if you are capable of capitalizing on the changes made. Shared features between both versions include adjustable height front and rear gearboxes, new shock towers with shock mount options to match gearbox height, more durable molded front and rear suspension arms, 16 degree steering blocks with updated bump steer geometry, Factory Team hard-anodized shock bushings, a new molded top plate, 131mm universal driveshafts with with 17mm outdrives, bladder and emulsion style shock pieces included in the package, 40/9 ring and pinion set is standard, 19mm and 20mm diameter HTC internal differential gear options included plus a new rear anti-roll bar with wider mounting points to increase its effect on handling.

As far as unique parts for each truck we’ll start with the nitro version which features a new -4mm aluminum alloy chassis plate as well as new brake pad material and a new brake spring.

The RC8T4.2e eschews the nitro specific parts, of course, but is still packed with performance goodies. In addition to the pieces listed above the “e” version gets a heavy duty aluminum motor plate attached to the large center differential mount, dual velcro strap equipped battery boxes as well as ample room one the drivers side for the motor while the ESC, RX and servo all fit neatly on the passengers side.

THOUGHTS FROM THE WORKBENCH

This week I began cleaning out the garage space where I usually work on my RC”s when on the road visiting my mom. Over the last year it has became a catch-all for anything that doesn’t need to be in the house. I’ve got about 50% of the space cleared out but now the tough part rears its ugly head: construction. I need a new rack to store several vehicles on and the one I currently have i not very space efficient. It holds around 3 vehicles side-by-side and I hit my head on it every time I lean over to work on anything. The new rack I’ve designed will hold the cars nose-to-tail and will also hold each level closer to each other, making better use of space, both horizontally and vertically. The last major issue to resolve is lighting and where to put it. Currently I have a 4-foot LED shop light right over the work surface that lights it up perfectly but I am not sure that there will be a place to mount it once the rack is built. I’ll try to get pics during the build process to show exactly what I’m talking about and to hopefully inspire you to build your own!

Thank you, one and all, for your continued support of 1i-rc; your coming back week after week means the world to us and is what keeps us going. Until next time, be good to yourself, be good to each other, be good to your RC.
