Returning to their roots in crawling Axial has announced the release of their new SCX Pro chassis kit, a model that skews the needle back toward the performance side of the scale spectrum.
At the heart of the kit is a new aluminum flat rail chassis that that does not taper but rather remains a consistent width throughout, unlike many aftermarket units which may be pinched at the front, rear or even both ends. Between the rails lies a new 3.8 degree angled skid, housing a selectable underdrive transmission that can be operated either manually or via an auxiliary channel on the radio. The rear axle can be underdriven by 40% for a tighter turning radius and reduced torque twist on climbs, although current 2023 comp rules do not allow this to be changed on the fly. A forward mounted motor plate places the motor’s weight as low as possible while still providing clearance for the suspension links.
Connecting the chassis to the axles are beefy stainless steel suspension links in a 4-link rear, 3-link with pan hard bar front suspension arrangement. The lower links are thicker for added rigidity and a lower center of gravity and the rear links are bent for added clearance. Smooth body coated aluminum dampers fitted with mini-sized springs are found at all four corners. By removing the spring and preload collar from the shock additional steering clearance is created to take advantage of the new axle design’s impressive steering throw.
New multi-piece axle housings with steel tubes keep the weight as low as possible while also remaining simple to work on and strong. The steering axle is an offset pumpkin design and can accommodate an optional axle mounted servo steering setup using the included mount and optional 4-link pieces. The rear axle is a centered pumpkin design with longer tubes in place of rear lockouts for reduced hangups.
The SCX Pro is sold as an unassembled kit and does not include wheels, tires, a body shell, motor, esc, radio gear, a battery or charger.
