TWIRC: This Week In RC, February 24-March 1

Welcome back intrepid readers! While not the busiest week on the calendar this week saw new releases from Team Associated and Pro-Line, giving us a few new things to add to our collective shopping carts. Let’s dive in to see what’s new!

TEAM ASSOCIATED

Team Associated’s parking lot racer, the RC10DS, was originally available as a Mercedes DTM and a Ford Mustang Trans Am, as well as a Nitro DS version as a Ford NASCAR Truck series pickup but is now available as a (definitely not a Porsche) Rally Racer, shown here in a classic Martini-esque livery. This kit follows on the heels of the Classic Kit released last year and gives builders another option when it comes to parking lot bashing or even serious competition. In the 90’s the Dual Sport class made parking lot racing more accessible to the average person, being easier to drive on rough parking lot surfaces thanks to their larger dampers and off-road buggy style of construction. The Rally is mechanically identical to the Classic Kit, including its black anodized aluminum tub chassis with laser etched RC10DS logo, front and rear anti-roll bars, ball differential equipped Stealth transmission, A.T.C. slipper clutch assembly, mesh wheel caps over nylon 2.0″ white wheels and alloy body shocks. Bronze bushings are found all around with this kit so make sure to pick up a bearing kit at the time of purchase; better to do it at the time of the build than to have to disassemble the car later to accomplish the same result.

Also new this week is a definite must-have for any RC10 owner in the form of these new Factory Team Captured Hinge Pin sets. These pins eschew the stock e-clips in favor of a hex head pin and lock nut arrangement that not only offers added durability but also easier assembly. Associated offer pins to fit any 2wd or 4×4 tub chassis RC10 and are sold in individual pairs based on length.

PRO-LINE RACING

New this month from Pro-Line Racing are a universal use car work stand for 1/28 to 1/8 cars as well as three new pre-mounted tire options for the Arrma Mojave GROM that include the Badlands MX, Vector and King Pin, each mounted on Split Six wheels.

First up is the new PRO Car Stand with multi-use toppers, designed to work with vehicles from 1/28 all the way up to 1/8. This stand allows the car or truck to be rotated to access any angle and keeps the tires off the work surface during testing and storage alike. An aluminum shaft adds enough heft to provide a balanced center of gravity when in use while a plastic base and toppers keep heft to a minimum when in transport. Foam pads keep the chassis from sliding around while shock holder holes give your dampers a home while the air separates itself from the oil.

If you get your bash on with an Arrma Mojave GROM Pro-Line has you covered no matter the surface with three new tire options, each conveniently pre-mounted on 12mm hex Split Six wheels. First up are the Badlands MX, the ultimate all-terrain tire that works better and better as the terrain gets worse and worse. These M2 medium compound tires strike a balance between tread block support and all out sticky traction and are supported by soft, open-cell foam inserts. Sold in sets of four these tires will propel your MG through or over whatever the backyard can throw at it!

Street bashers now have their own option for rolling stock in the form of the new Vector on-road tire, again pre-mounted on 12mm hex Split Six wheels, in a size fitting the Mojave GROM. These tires are also molded in the M2 medium compound, balancing tire life with grip, and are supported by open-cell foam inserts. The directional V-shaped tread not only looks the part of a 1:1 tire but also channel dust and debris from the center channel outward to the shoulder, maximizing traction on unprepared surfaces.

Rounding out this months trio of tiny tires (pun very much intended) are the King Pin dirt tires for use on track. Within the carcass of the tire are a field of equally spaced square knobs, similar to the Hole Shot and Blockade tread patterns seen in the 1/8 and 1/10 world, arranged in rows that do not overlap, creating a straight line of pins that act like a paddle tire for both ends of the truck. Pro-Line’s medium M2 compound supports the height of the pin without sacrificing too much initial traction, while the open-cell foam inserts support the tire from shoulder to shoulder. Each four pack comes conveniently pre-glued to 12mm Split Six wheels for open-the-bag-and-bolt-the-wheels-on convenience.

With that, another wee of RC goodness is in the books. We thank you for tuning in to get your regularly scheduled RC fix, your continued support is greatly appreciated. Until next time, be good to yourself, be good to others, be good to your RC.
