I’m pretty sure I’ve sprouted 500 new grey hairs this week thanks to all of these puppies running around, leaving me less time to enjoy the hobby than most weeks. I was hoping to get the finished builds for the RC10T7 and SC7 posted this week as well as giving our initial review of both trucks, but alas it was not meant to be. Trying to keep up with 6 adult dogs, 15 pups and a mom that had surgery on Tuesday meant I was stretched quite thin. I’ll do my best to get things back on track (pun definitely intended) in the coming weeks. This week didn’t see too many new releases but thanks to JConcepts we weren’t left out in the cold; there were several new products as well as a new tire compound to keep our appetites well satiated.
JCONCEPTS
First up from JConcepts this week was a new P2 stadium truck body for the Traxxas Rustler and its new clipless body system. This is a first for the aftermarket (at least that I have seen) as most other bodies require the use of the old body mounts instead of the newer clipless system and its multiple bolt-in molded pieces. JConcepts had to strike a balance between replicating their P2 shape while also keeping things in a similar shape to the stock body so that the clipless system still fits. Reusing the stock mounting system locks you into a similar shaped body to stock but the P2 does bring its own flair to the party and looks modern without looking like a direct copy of the stock TRX piece. The menacing front end leads to the Punisher’s signature cab styling with its double side windows and a roofline that blends toward the bed with a stabilizing fin molded right in. Winglets find their home above the rear arches while the included rear spoiler gets mounted with the stock hardware. Protective overspray film, window masks and detail decals are included, making the finishing process a snap.

For mini bashers that get their kicks with the Arrma Mojave GROM JConcepts has you covered (literally) with their new F2 SCT body. This body fits the stock chassis’ clipless body system while also bringing a touch of classic truck style to the decidedly modern SCT platform. The nose is wide and largely flat, but has hints of Raptor styling cues thrown in as an inspiration and features an original JConcepts design for the grille and headlights. The cab looks retro to my eye; mostly thanks to its body shape and the added real estate above the windshield before blending into the roof. To me the cab looks inspired by an older F-150 while the side windows look very Jeep Comanche (think of the Warlord scale crawler body), of which combines to produce a very attractive silhouette. Mini bodies are a difficult balance to strike; they are wide compared to their length and their wheels are usually larger than the scale would dictate. JConcepts has found a way to make everything proportional while keeping the scale “feel” intact. As previously stated this body utilizes the stock clipless body mount system and also includes JConcepts’ premium window masks, overspray film and full-color detail decals.

Up next is a new scale crawler body for 12.3″ wheelbase crawlers in the form of the new APC-X, a military inspired armored personnel carrier (hence the acronym) that is heavily inspired by the AM General produced military vehicles first seen the in the 1980’s. The standup grille and windshield look tough as nails and serve in start contrast to the swooping lines of the extended wheel arches. This truck is configured as a four-door with a truck bed, much like a civilian version would be, rather than a wagon or fastback that would have seen service in Desert Storm. This truck looks just as good on blacked out beadlocks and military tires as it does on a 2.6″ wheel and low-pro off-road tire (mall crawler style, baby!). Like all other JConcepts bodies the APC-X is bathed in overspray film, includes a set of premium window masks and gets an extensive decal sheet to make finishing a breeze.

Again, I apologize for the short edition of TWIRC this week. I want to extend a very big thank you to all of the companies that supply us with press releases as well as each and every one of our awesome audience; without you none of this would be possible for us. Until next time, be good to yourself, be good to each other, be good to your RC.
