New Product Release: Traxxas Sledge 1/8 Monster Truggy

The truck that Traxxas monster truck fans have been craving for more than 20 years has finally arrived! The 1/8 Sledge is a clean sheet approach for Traxxas and brings a host of design improvements to the table not seen on other vehicles in its class.

Under the cab-forward, heavily reinforced body lies a deeply formed aluminum plate chassis that is reinforced with a multi-point composite truss system as well as the patent-pending T-Bar that offers rigidity both laterally and longitudinally; something no round tube=style brace can match. The T-Bar also keys into the bulkheads for added strength, placing all of the stress on the bar and not solely on the mounting hardware. Finally, front and rear chassis braces ensure that the truck is the same shape after a hard bash session as it was before.

The toughness doesn’t stop with the chassis though as the suspension is just as beefy and advanced in its design. Suspension arms molded from Traxxas’ toughest composite material utilize press fit high strength steel suspension pins for the tightest tolerances possible without binding. Large body aluminum oil-filled GT Maxx dampers are found at all four corners and utilize 4mm hardware for the attachment to the shock tower, of which are 5mm aluminum, combining for “take-a-huge-hit-and-come-back-for-more” levels of toughness. Large diameter shock shafts resist bending while X-ring seals stave off friction inside each shock. Solid heavy-duty molded camber and steering links keep things pointed in the right direction even after a hard hit while also being lightweight.

The Sledge puts the power down through a beefed up drivetrain consisting of a torque biasing center differential designed to handle 6s power, solid steel center driveshafts, differential ring gears that are 20% larger and 75% thicker than other 1/8 diffs to better withstand the torque of the motor, and steel driveshafts at the axles, all of which are supported by oversized bearings.

For power, the Sledge makes use of Traxxas’ waterproof VXL-6s brushless speed control paired with a 2000kv motor for brutal speed and torque whether running on 4s or 6s lithium power. A new 2275 waterproof metal gear servo keeps the front tires pointed in the right direction with its 375oz-in of torque at six volts. An aluminum motor cradle not only keeps the motor from shifting due to hard impacts but also aids in cooling thanks to its construction and machined bosses ready to accept a motor fan (sold separately).
