New Product Release: Traxxas TRX-4MT 1/18 RTR Monster Truck

FOr enthusiasts waiting for Traxxas to release a solid axle monster truck, wait no more! The TRX4MT brings the excitement of vintage monster truck racing to a living room or backyard near you with palm-sized performance and accurate scale looks.

Available as either a Chevy or a Ford, drivers have their choice of manufacturer as well as a choice in paint colors. The ABS hard bodies are available in either blue or black for the Ford, as well as red or black for the Chevrolet. Officially licensed Bigfoot decals and accessories are available to detail the Ford into a miniature of Bigfoot #1 (each sold separately). New chrome plated engine details are included that place the carburetors and air cleaners above the hoodline for an old-school, in your face look. Chrome roll bars with off-road lights are fitted in the bed while bolt-on chrome bumpers and grille pieces add to the scale appearance. Inside the headlight housings are LED lights to keep the fun going even after the sun goes down. Traxxas has included their clipless body mount system to preserve the scale appearance of the body and to make removing the shell a breeze.

Beneath those beautiful body shells lies a new monster truck specific set of frame rails that imitate the tube chassis of the real thing. Sponsor logo boards are included to show off your brand loyalty. The steel c-channel rails are formed with a deep “C’ cross section for maximum rigidity while also allowing easy mounting of the various chassis and suspension components. A centrally mounted transmission takes torque from the forward mounted motor and splits it even between the front and rear locked axles via heavy-duty center driveshafts. Optional gearing sets will be offered for increased torque or top speed (each sold separately). Steel constant-velocity shafts are installed in the front for added steering angle while the rear makes do with standard axle shafts and straight axle housings. The transmission and axles spin on bushings, keeping costs low while keeping things spinning smoothly.

The TRX4MT is fitted out of the box with Traxxas’ Long Arm Lift Kit for a significant lift as well as reduced arcing of the axle during travel. A triangulated four-link suspension arrangement keeps the axles under control and now features mounting points for dual shocks at each corner. Speaking of those shocks they are GTM dampers; one oil filled and the other used a spring holder with no oil. Provisions for sealing o-rings and bladders are molded into the shock so upgrading to eight oil-filled shocks is a simple process (o-rings and bladders sold separately). For simplicity and space saving packaging reasons the steering servo is mounted directly to the front axle.

For electronics the TRX4MT makes use of the standard TRX4m 87t 180 size motor, ECM 2.5 ESC/RX combo, a TQ 2.4 gHz transmitter, a metal gear heavy duty 3065R steering servo as well as a 750mAh 2s LiPO battery and 2 am fast USB charger. Retaining the battery is a simple rubber battery strap, no clips to mess with or hold downs to lose. All that is needed to run the truck are (4) AA batteries for the transmitter.

Rounding out the package (pardon the pun) are a set of polished chrome finish plastic beadlock style wheels wrapped in hand-grooved style chevron terra tires. The wheels accept standard 7mm wheel hexes and look very period correct. While not glued the tires are a good match for the amount of power that the truck makes. Foam inserts are not included, however the sidewalls are stiff enough to support the weight of this light truck. Measuring in at 3.1″ tall, the terra tires are nearly an inch taller than traditional TRX4-m tires and 0.7″ taller than High Trail tires.
