RPM
New from the brilliant minds at RPM are front and rear (each sold separately) upper bumper mounts for the Traxxas X-Maxx. These beefy units feature larger beams that measure .25″x .5″, dwarfing the stock bumper mounts. The multiple curved shape of the beams retains strength while maximizing durability with just the right amount of flex. LRP
Long time electric motor and speed control manufacturer LRP has introduced a revolutionary new brushless motor, named the X10 Outlaw, that combines the efficiency of a modified motor with the control of a stock class motor. Instead of using a power limiting stock class rotor this new motor features an X22 modified unit with the stronger magnet. This motor runs much cooler and more efficiently that other stock class motors and is fully rebuildable for a long service life. While not ROAR legal this motor can be used in club type events or even as a controlled handout option.

Dirt track racers have two new tire options thanks to the fine Floridians at JConcepts, who this week released the Dirt Trac and Subcultures 2 for the Traxxas Slash, Mudboss (Modified) or Late Model, as well as other SC platforms. Each are conveniently pre-mounted on Hazard wheels, are molded in the soft and sticky green compound and are supported by closed cell foam inserts. Each are sold in pairs.

TEAM ASSOCIATED
Seemingly out of nowhere Team Associated dropped the new RC10DR, a Dakar Rally style off-road rig based on the ProSC10 platform. This RTR includes the Reedy Brushless system that is fairly standard among TA RTR’s, a metal gear Reedy servo, a 2.4gHz radio system, LCG chassis, 22 rubber sealed ball bearings, rear CVA axle shafts, steel turnbuckles, aluminum oil-filled dampers and a new rally style body.

Finally this week we have a quick update on our Class 2 fun rig. I tool the time to disassemble the axles and replace the ring and pinion gears both front and rear before shimming them for proper wear and re-greasing with Lucas Oil Red-N-Tacky for smooth operation. The front is overdriven with an 8/24t ring and pinion while the rear is underdriven with an 8/33t ration, giving the truck a 30% overdrive at the front axle. This may prove to be a little too aggressive in which case I will replace the rear axle set with the stock 8/30t ring and pinion. At the same time I installed the new Amazon dig transmission which was also disassembled and greased with Lucas Oil Red-N-Tacky. Attached to the back of the transmission is a TowerPro MG995 metal gear $5 servo which clicks the transmission into and out of gear with authority after setting the endpoints precisely to not strain the servo or risk damaging the transmission. With any luck I’ll be able to get the truck out this week, so long as this bout of rain storms passes us by.
