TWIRC: This Week In RC, January 4-11

The new year is officially underway and the RC industry is slowly but surely waking up from its holiday induced food coma. New produces this week include a new micro from Axial and a new truggy front wing from JConcepts; a piece that makes you think “why haven’t we see this before?” On to the news!

AXIAL

Axial is once again going big by going small with the introduction of the new SCX30 Chevrolet K10. This palm-sized sub-micro crawler packs many of the same features found on larger rigs into its diminutive footprint with details such as a scale ladder chassis, easy access transmission, diff gears compatible with the larger SCX24 making for easy ratio changes, high clearance rear links and an angled skid for reduced hangups, Spektrum electronics throughout and even officially licensed Interco Super Swamper tires on scale 15″ chrome wheels. Molded detail pieces bring the K10 hard body to life while clipless body mounts preserve the scale looks. An SLT2 transmitter is included in the package and is standard sized, it only looks gargantuan thanks to the small size of the SCX30 itself!

JCONCEPTS

While the front wing has been a staple in 1/10 off-road buggy racing for quite some time now, its use has only recently tricked into the world of 1/8 buggies. While these vehicles do rely heavily on their rear wing for downforce the need for added front downforce was not generally there as the rough and rutted outdoor tracks necessitated softer suspension to deal with the track surface and didn’t rely on downforce alone. With the trend of tracks going to higher bite surfaces and setups becoming stiffer and stiffer the need for balanced aerodynamics became greater and greater. JConcpets has produced molded from wings for 1/8 buggies for some time now but just this week filled in the gap for the truggy crowd with the introduction of their new 1/8 truck front wing. These durable, injection molded pieces are sold in a convenient 2-pack and offered in a variety of colors (including my favorite, Retro Pink). Each front wing can be fitted to most any 1/8 truggy as mounting holes are up to the end-user.
